Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher
With fabulous rainbow plumage and a striking red beak the Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher is one of the world’s most beautifully coloured birds. Known by other names including the Black-Backed Kingfisher and the Three-Toed Kingfisher, this diminutive bird, just 13cm long, lives near shaded forest streams in the Indian sub-continent and south east Asia. Unlike other members of the kingfisher family it does not eat fish but feeds instead on insects, small lizards and frogs.
